Jenga, Playmobil, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the classic spinning top are each battling it out for a place in the US National Toy Hall of Fame.
It’s a mix of classic toys and big name brands that feature among the 12 finalists vying for a spot at The Strong museum and to feature alongside previous winners such as the Rubik’s Cube or the Frisbee.
The colouring book, Wiffle Ball, American Girl dolls, Battleship, the scooter, Super Soaker, and Twister also feature in the running, to be whittled down to two to be inducted into the museum on November 5th.
The National Hall of Fame encourages anyone to nominate a toy, however to earn a place in the annals of history, they must have survived multiple generations, be widely recognised and foster learning, creativity or discovery through play.
The finalists are chosen by historians and curators at The Strong museum, where a panel of judges made up of inventors, educators, psychologists and more will then select the winners.
Last year saw little green Army men and the Rubik’s Cube as well as bubbles take their place in the hall, joining 53 other favourites including Barbie, Easy-Bake Oven, G.I. Joe and View-Master.
